Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability… – Matt 25:15

All of us are made in the image of God (Gen 1:27). None of us, however, is exactly the same; and that is a good thing.

In this parable, we see that some of the servants started out with an unequal advantage. One received five talents, another two, and another only one. Life is not always fair. Perhaps you don’t have access to the same resources as the people around you. However, you do have access to the same God.

As God’s servants, we are not judged in relation to the people around us. We all come to Christ at different times in our lives, with unique difficulties along the way. Christianity is not a competition! How you “stack up” compared to other people in church is not your concern. Your only responsibility is to make the best use possible of everything God has given you. The servants who were faithful with their inheritance entered into the joy of the Lord.

Don’t worry about the people around you, and how your life compares to theirs. Simply pray that God would give you boldness and shameless confidence to go out and use the skill set and resources He has given you to the best of your ability!

Prayer:

Father, remind me not to compare myself to other people. You made me unique on purpose! You skillfully knitted me together to be my own, unique self. Help me to use everything You have given me for Your glory, in Jesus’ name!
