Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison. – Acts 8:3
Saul was a bad man. He arrested Christians for their beliefs. He even supervised as the mob murdered Stephen (Acts 8:1). But God changed Saul. Saul encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus, and was forever changed. He became Paul, and, “…immediately he preached…Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God” (Acts 9:18). A man who had dramatically persecuted Christians was forgiven, transformed, and then employed to spread the Gospel. This is the power of God’s forgiveness towards us!
If God used Saul, He will use you. You might think, “But you don’t know what I’ve done.” You’re right. I don’t; and I don’t care. There is no sin so great that it can overpower the finished work of the Cross! God will take the blemishes in your past and wipe them clean. He will take the scars in your life and make them preaching points! There are people in your life who won’t hear about Jesus unless you tell them, because you’ve been through exactly what they’re going through right now! Your scars don’t disqualify you from ministry; they actually make you uniquely qualified to preach the Gospel in a way no one else can!
God loves you, no matter what you’ve done. God trusts you to preach the Gospel, no matter what you’ve done. He will fill you with His Holy Spirit – with power from on high – no matter what you’ve done! Will you trust Him?
Father, thank you that You are the God Who Forgives! I receive Your forgiveness, and I celebrate Your love. Now help me to go out and tell the world how good You really are!
