Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. – Matt 8:3

God is willing to heal you. Jesus’ response to this leper still stands today: no matter what sickness is attacking your body. God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8). He is willing; be cleansed! When we worship God, He heals us.

We see God’s willingness to heal all throughout today’s reading in Matthew 8. In verses 5-7, a centurion asks Jesus to heal his servant; Jesus’ immediate response is, “I will come and heal him” (v 7). In verse 15, as Peter’s mother-in-law is sick with a fever, Jesus touches her hand and heals her. In verse 16, we see the depth of Jesus’ commitment to healing: He healed all who were sick (v 16)! All means all: every single one!

There are those in the church who say that Jesus no longer heals. However, we know that healing and salvation happened on the same day on the Cross (Is 53:4-6); so if He still saves, He still heals! There are those in the church who say that God punishes our sins with sickness. However, would it make any sense at all for Jesus to spend His whole earthly ministry eradicating sickness, only to have God reinstate everything Jesus had worked to cast out?

God is Jehovah Rapha: the God Who Heals (Ex 15:26). Healing is not just something He does; healing is Who God Is. Do you need healing? Kneel at the feet of Jesus, and ask Him to heal you completely. He is always willing.

Father, I believe You for complete healing in the name of Jesus. I know that sometimes healing takes time, but I will trust in You. Increase my faith for perfect healing at the foot of the Cross.
